Rose the Belgian Malinois’ Story

Rose the Belgian Malinois was born on February 19, 2013. She was put up for adoption in Winger, New Mexico. One day, Amber Jones entered the dusty barn Rose was being kept in. Amber bent down and said to Rose, “Hey pup, you’re so cute!” Amber talked to the man keeping the dogs. She was able to take Rose for free, because the man was trying to get rid of the pups. (He didn’t know Rose’s mother was pregnant and didn’t want to have 5 more things to take care of) Amber left with Rose, and brought her back to the trailer park she was living in. Rose was happy that she had her own dog bed to sleep on, and that it was just her and Amber in the clean, nice, new trailer. Rose liked racing through the park and greeting all of the other people near her trailer. One day, Amber came home with a man! Rose did not like him. He smelled weird, and he was always mean to her! Even worse, he never fed her table scraps! What kind of man is NOT a dog’s best friend? Rose was really concerned, because ever since the strange man showed up, Amber was getting skinnier and more sad, and the trailer was getting dirtier and dirtier, and Amber stopped cleaning up. A month later, the man stopped coming to the trailer, and Amber was on the couch crying with a weird-smelling stick in her hand. Rose was very sad to see this, and tried to sniff the stick, but Amber held it away from her. Amber said, “I can’t believe it. I’m having a baby, and he jus-just walked away!” Amber was crying even harder now. Rose didn’t know what to do, so she just laid down at her feet.

Rose saw Amber walk through the door with a bundle of cloth. The bundle was making weird squealing noises, and it smelled like a person. It was a person! A tiny person, with small chubby arms and legs that moved in strange directions. Amber was crying. She said, “I can’t do this. I have to put her up for adoption.” Rose was sad that the small person had to go, but she was even more sad, because Amber came home looking sickly thin, and soon with short smelly twigs that made Rose sneeze. Rose did not like the twigs. They smelled horrible, and on the first day, Rose threw up in the trailer from the stink! Amber’s face was turning yellow, and her skin was paper thin. She came home in skimpy clothes, and she never cleaned up the trailer, and never fixed the screen when it broke. There were flies everywhere. Rose HATED the flies. They were always buzzing around her, being so annoying, and NOT leaving her alone! Rose was irritable and anxious, and she never knew when she was going to get fed, as Amber wasn’t home anymore, but when she was, she was asleep. One night, Amber came home with a scary man. He was rude and hitting Amber, but when Rose tried to help her, the man kicked her away and said, “Stupid dog.” Rose’s temper flared. She attacked the man, jumping onto his back, knocking him out before he hit the floor. Amber called 911, and Rose was taken away to a scary place. There were metal bars in front of her face, and when she pushed at them with her snout, they had a sharp metallic smell. Rose had to live in a small barred room, getting fed every evening and morning, and only being let out once a day! Three days later, Amber showed up. She was happy to see Rose, and even better, took Rose out of the horrible place! Rose went home with Amber, but didn’t want to enter the trailer. It was filled with smoke, and there was a figure inside. Rose cautiously entered, paw after paw, nervous about what would happen. The figure stayed laying on the couch. Rose laid down on her bed. Rose fell onto the floor. There was NO BED. Rose was very unhappy and didn’t know why Amber had gotten rid of her bed! Amber didn’t know either. Amber asked the man where Rose’s bed had gone, but he just said, “No more dog.” Rose was furious! That was her bed, and she loved it! She was not going to let it go. Rose wanted to attack the strange man, but she didn’t want to end up back in the scary place. Rose laid down on the floor. Over the next few weeks, Rose saw peculiar letters coming in the mail, usually crumpled up or sent back, but always addressed to Amber Fink. WHAT?!?! Rose knew that Amber’s last name was JONES. Not FINK! Rose wanted to attack the strange man more than ever, but she was so scared to go back to the bad place. Amber called the man “Lenny” and was always yelling at him. Rose was troubled whenever she saw Amber, because her gaunt face and skinny limbs were alarming. One day, Rose ran. She ran out of the trailer park, past the highway, and into the gas station’s parking lot. There she met another Malinois. This Malinois really liked Rose, and they played together all day, tackling each other like lion cubs. Later, Rose went home. When she got home, Amber gave her a big hug, but then started to tear up. Rose never ran away again, because she hated seeing Amber so sad. The next day, Rose felt strange. She felt like there was something inside of her! Rose couldn’t move much, and just decided to lay around all day. One day, Rose was in pain. She howled and howled, but the pain didn’t go away. Soon, there were nine little puppies wriggling around on a pile of clothes. Rose was exhausted, so she just laid there. Eight weeks passed in a flash, and she was sad to see her pups leave the trailer, but wanted them to have a better life without Amber and Lenny.

Wow, what a cool story and website! Can’t wait to read more. I will share it with my grandkids. You kids are so lucky to live in this electronic day and age! When I was a kid all we had to play with was toy soldiers in a sandbox or dirt mound. However, I guess that wasn’t so bad since we ended up giving you kids, “The Electronic Age”.
