Nine Puppies Have Been Born

In-Depth profiles on all nine dogs

Bailey, tired from her strenuous journey of 65 feet from the Finks’ trailer, falls asleep in the shadow of a cactus by the dusty dirt road. A few minutes later, a long tour bus stops on the side of the road. Out steps Maggie, a young country singer in her twenties. She picks Bailey up, looks her over, and says, “Yer such a purdy lil’ thang. I’m gon’ take ye home.” There goes Bailey!

Ella, a very hungry pup, smells a neighbor barbecuing bacon next door. She walks over, following her nose, arrives at the smell of bacon, but then falls asleep in the warm sunlight on the porch.

Lady, thirsty from the lack of water in the trailer, spots a running creek. She walks over to it, stumbling through a campsite, and takes a few tentative sips. A young couple spots her and runs over to her. Lady tries to escape them and starts floundering in the shallow water. The couple rescues her and she is safe and sound, but wet.

As the rest of the puppies move across the highway, Zaida catches a scent on the shoulder, and goes to investigate. As she is scrounging around, a ’69 Cadillac pulls onto the ramp, nearly hitting the pup! The driver slams on his brakes, and a pretty redhead hops out and snags the tiny mal.

Akira, with her strong nose, decides to follow a strong smell and wanders into a gas station. Two soldiers have stopped to buy snacks and and sodas. One of the soldiers spots Akira, and offers her a cheese puff. She devours it, and he picks her up and puts her in the Hummer.

Piper, curious, wanders to the back of a roadside restaurant called “Reya’s Roadhouse”, smells fish, and hops into the back of a truck carrying seafood. The truck has Florida license plates, and is delivering seafood for today’s special: Ghost Shrimp!

Princess, the adorable Groenendael, is also at Reya’s Roadhouse and is spotted by a rich lady. The lady runs to her car to grab jerky treats from when she used to have a dog, and lures Princess in.

Dashley is rummaging underneath the dumpster with Dolly Jeanne, when a dog catcher walks by, eating a pizza burger. He hears rustling, and comes over to the dumpster. Dolly and Dashley hide, but the dog catcher can see Dashley’s rump sticking out of a chip bag. The dog catcher snatches Dashley, but does not see Dolly.

Dolly Jeanne, the last dog, scurries away hurriedly and then slows to a walk when she realizes she is truly all alone on a dusty dirt road.
